　Greetings!
We have all been watching the news reports from Wall Street
and how recent events have impacted our national economy.
Understandably, many of you are concerned and want to know
about the security of your own money here at
The Bank of Fayetteville.

　私たちは、ウォール街からのニュースに目を通すとともに、わが
国経済に及ぼす影響を、注意深く見守っております。多くのお客様
が、私どもフェイエットビル銀行にお金を預けておいてよいものの
かどうか、お悩みであること、理解しております。）

I want to assure you that your money is safe and sound here
at The Bank of Fayetteville. We have been in business for
over 20 years and our depositors have never lost a single
dollar of their money. Unlike some of the financial
institutions you have been hearing about on the news,
we know our market and our customers.
（このフェィエットビル銀行に置かれている皆さまの預金を

As a nation, we have entered into what I believe will be
looked back upon one day as the worst real estate market
since the S & L crisis of the early 1980’s and possibly
since the Great Depression. In addition, we have certainly
experienced slow downs and real estate price decreases in
the recessions of 1974, 1981, 1991 and 2001, but we have
never experienced a market in which the velocity and sales
prices of homes and finished lots have fallen so much,
so fast. The good news is that nobody here is responsible
for it. The bad news is, all banks are being severely
impacted by it.
（わが国は、１９８０年代初頭の“Ｓ＆Ｌ破綻”以来の不動産市場
の崩壊に直面しており、ひょっとしたら、すでに大恐慌に突入して
いるかもしれません。付け加えると、1974、1981,1991そして2001年
には、ゆるやかな景気後退と不動産価格の値下がりという局面があり
ましたが、今回の市場の変化による、住宅価格の下落はあまりに急激
で、今までに経験したことがない事態です。よいニュースは、どこか
らも、聞こえてきません。すべての銀行の経営状態を悪化させる、悪
いニュースばかりです。）

The speculators and flippers were the culprits, and the subprime
lenders became the enablers -- by providing the ridiculous
teaser rates and 100% financing that we all knew never made
any sense. What we could not know, was the impact these practices
were going to have on all real estate values and sales. At the
end of the day, it's pretty simple...but ugly. The bottom line
– in our market, we now have completed lots and homes that will
take up to 5 years to absorb.
（投機家と水面下の犯罪者とサブプライムローンの貸し手たちが、私ども
には考えもつかないような、馬鹿げた金利と全額融資の制度を作りました。
当時の私どもは、この制度が不動産バブルを引き起こすことを、知るよし
もありませんでした。結末は、とても単純で、醜いものとなりました。
　この不動産市場の急落により、5年分の利益に相当する、土地、住宅
を差し押さえることと相成りました。）
